Easily one of my favorite bands, Metric has been somewhat off the radar for a bit. Their last studio release, Live it Out from 2005 has remained a go-to itunes selection, but familiarity eventually sets in and I’ve grown increasingly eager (violently impatient) with regards to hearing new stuff from them. In the intervening time, frontwoman Emily Haines has put out two of her own terrific releases, a full length solo album (2006’s Knives Don’t Have Your Back) and a smaller scale follow-up EP, What Is Free to a Good Home? Metric also released Live at the Metropolis a DVD of live performance material from from their recent tour, with presumably other goodies caught on film.
Fortunately I’ve often checked in on the band’s website from time to time and my prayers for new studio material seem to have been answered, at least for right now. Their new single (and eponymously-named canadian tour) Help, I’m Alive is getting some radio play and will be just one of the songs featured on their new album dropping in 2009. I’ve grabbed the video currently featured on their homepage and posted it below. Enjoy.
